The final insult was paid to a poorly performing English side as, despite beating Argentina, they were booed of the field after the final whistle.

English fans passed the time making and flying paper aeroplanes, as there was very little rugby worth watching as Martin Johnson’s men put on yet another pitiful display of schoolboy rugby. Occasionally, very occasionally, the fans were able to steal themselves to a less than rousing rendition of ‘Swing Low Sweet Chariot’ but most of the time even this was too much. And if you consider that a spectator ticket cost almost £100, their frustration was justified totally.

In an interview following the match, the English manager Martin Johnson admitted that he felt that he had aged twenty years during the course of the match.

At one stage, in fact through a large part of the match, it appeared that Argentina had a good chance of victory. That that final humiliation for England didn’t occur was more down to luck rather than to judgement. Even at the very end, after the full eighty minutes had been played, it still looked as if Argentina could level the score line.

The first hardly saw hardly any proper rugby at all. It was nothing other than a kicking match, and it seemed to be Argentina that was better at it then England. When they came out for the second half, for a while it was an entirely different type of rugby that was played. Perhaps following a half time bawling out, suddenly they were using the wing and running with the ball. At least they eventually scored a try. But overall the performance was dire. Even Jonny Wilkinson failed to impress with his kicking, and made a series of misses.

Next England takes on New Zealand on 21st November. Although a win for England is being offered at 11/2, Gaming Supermarket recommends that you don’t waste your money. The best value for money is a win for Wales over Argentina even though the best odds are 7/18 at Betfair.

All odds correct at time of writing and are subject to change.
