Who Will Make Capello’s World Cup Squad?

A week on Friday sees the draw for next year’s World Cup, and after a very positive qualifying campaign England fans will no doubt be waiting for it with baited breath. Fabio Capello has done a great job thus far, but the Italian faces some of his biggest decisions yet, when he chooses who makes the squad.

The England manager more than likely has a group of about 14 players who, barring injury, have already booked their flights to South Africa, but there are a number of players either in great form or with bags of experience eyeing up one of the remaining places.

Let’s start with David Beckham, who had a fantastic game last night in the climax to the LA Galaxy season, he’s off to Italy now in the hope that playing in a competitive league will keep his fitness levels up in the months leading up to the competition. Beckham has been a massive part of the England setup over the last 12 years and his experience and ability in dead ball situations could be enough to warrant him a place in the squad, Paddy Power are best price he is included at 4/11.

Others that might be worth considering: Joe Cole, the Chelsea winger hasn’t had much chance to impress the England boss due to long term injury, but most England fans would like to see him included due to his ability to take on defenders and more importantly, the fact he can play on the left hand side of midfield (4/6 with BlueSq he makes the squad).

Micah Richards has made 11 England appearances and was the youngest ever England defender, if you believe the reports he could be switching clubs in January which may hamper any call up prospects but you could do a lot worse than back him to be included at 13/2 with Skybet.

The final eye catcher is Darren Bent, who is 13/8 with BlueSq, the Sunderland striker is in the form of his life at the moment and scoring goals for fun. If Capello takes 5 forwards with him to the competition, Bent may feel hard done to if his name is not on the list.
