The show will be hosted by Gary Lineker, Jake Humphrey and Sue Barker. This year the favourites are Jenson Button at 8/13 (Ladbrokes), Jessica Ennis at 9/2 (SportingBet), David Haye at 6/1(888Sport), Andrew Strauss at 16/1(Ladbrokes). Ryan Giggs is an outsider at 40/1 (SportingBet).
Jenson Button is this years Formula One Motor Sport Champion. Last year’s F1 Champion Lewis Hamilton almost won the prize, but was pipped at the post. Although many F1 fans believe Hamilton to be a more worthy champion than button, Button has an attractive personality and is very popular.
Jessica Ennis is the current heptathlon champion, which she won after a 12 month break from sport due to an injury. She has been adopted widely by the public as a sports darling, and she combines sporting prowess with good looks and a delightful personality.
David Haye was a cruiserweight champion until he stepped up a weight. As a heavyweight, he recently took on the giant Nikolai Valuev. In this fight, which some described as a David versus Goliath event, Haye demonstrated a remarkable degree of accuracy and speed. This was a popular win and has propelled him up the popularity ranks.
Andrew Strauss pulled of an amazing victory against the Australians as he led the England cricket side to reclaim the Ashes. He was also the leading run scorer. The Australians were led by Ponting who it is said would, in the event of a nuclear war, be the only survivor along with the cockroaches. To dominate that tough and determined Aussie was indeed worthy of this award.
Ryan Giggs is one of the few Welsh footballers to achieve fame. He has had an outstanding career as a footballer playing for Manchester United and England. He has won his 11th champion title, which is a record. Certainly he will receive the support of many football fans.
Last year a TV audience of 9,800,000 watched Chris Hoy, the Beijing Olympic Gold Medal winner beat Lewis Hamilton, the F1 Champion, and Rebecca Adlington, the Olympic Gold Swimmer.
