Ronnie O’Sullivan Shows his Mellow Side

Ronnie O’Sullivan is again demonstrating that he is the best snooker player in the World and that he is a worthy favourite to win the UK Snooker Championship Crown.

Ronnie O’Sullivan certainly didn’t have the best of starts in life. How he came from the ganglands of East London is well documented as is the fact that his father, once the owner of several sex shops, is now serving eighteen years in prison for murder. His mother was once imprisoned for tax evasion and he himself has at times been in trouble with drugs and he admits that he is susceptible to the black dog of depression.

Despite all this Ronnie O’Sullivan is widely recognised as one of the best snooker players of all time with a natural talent that has consistently been proven to be second to none.

In his opening round of the UK Snooker Championship that is taking place in Telford he beat Matthew Stevens by nine frames to three despite losing the first two. During this round O’Sullivan managed to make seven breaks of over sixty.

When after the match he was asked how he felt he had done, he said that he had not been able to tell how he had been doing as he had been too wrapped up in the match to be able to view it objectively. He said that he knew that he hadn’t got off to a good start, but in those situations it was important that he had not allowed himself to panic and that he had managed to keep cool. He also spoke of the future of the game, and indicated that he is very positive about recent changes that have taken place in the management of snooker and that his interest in the game has been re-stimulated.

Ronnie O’Sullivan remains the favourite to win the crown at 11/4 with Extrabet. John Higgins is the second favourite at 11/2 with Stan James.
