Andy Murray's quarter finals match against Cilic the Romanian was a mixture of an amazing display of thrilling tennis, nail biting drama as the game went one way then the other, and an anticlimax as the tired and dejected Cilic gave up the fight.

During the first set it looked at times as if the Murray of old had returned who was destined to follow a glorious quarterfinals victory with a lack lustre semi-finals defeat. He was easily broken by Cilic and didn’t seem to have the weaponry to either defend or attack. He lost the set 6-3 and seemed to be staring defeat in the jaws.

When he came back for the second set at first things didn’t seem any better, but with the score at two all something seemed to happen deep in his psyche; was the new Murray making a come-back? It all seemed to turn on a single stroke. He was lobbed by Cilic and he had to chase the ball to the baseline, but he not only collected the ball but delivered a forehand pass straight down the line to leave Cilic scratching his head. Murray let out a huge roar; when he viewed it afterwards he commented that he had not known that his mouth was so big.

From then on Murray improved with every game. He finished the second set 6-4  and dished out much of the same in the second set which also he took for 6-4. By the fourth set it didn’t look as Cilic had much left; he made a brave attempt to play tennis at the beginning but eventually he just gave up, a tired and dejected man. He lost the set 6-2.

Now Murray must play either Federer or Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the finals and he is currently evens with Sportingbet to take the championship. Federer is the huge favourite to win his match against Tsonga at 1/5 with 888Sport.
