Bridge on the Plane? Football Betting Odds

English football has been gripped by a moral dilemma over the past week, with the national press devoting hours of airtime to the debate as well as thousands of column inches in the tabloids, there is a certain irony to a Italian deciding after just 12 minutes in a meeting, that England would have a new captain.

On reflection Capello probably made the right choice, becoming England captain is every young boys dream and we require an ambassador for the game to hold the role, and Terry's actions have been more Roy Chubby Brown than Roy of the Rovers lately.

There is no doubt though that the Chelsea defender will be in England squad for this summer’s tournament though, quite simply, he is too good not to be included. The big question now however is where does this leave Terry's former team mate Wayne Bridge in Capello's plans.

Bridge has had his good name dragged down by this story and as a result his spot in national team maybe in doubt. The Manchester City defender is regarded by many as the second best left back available to England manager behind Ashley Cole but with Bridge and Terry having a bit too much in common these days, there are concerns that the two can't get along in the same squad.

On reflection, the press in this country can be their own worst enemy at times, a disruptive story like this always seems to rear its ugly head in time to disrupt preparation for a major tournament. Luckily we have a sensible and level headed man in charge of things, who values discipline and respect that the national team have been lacking during previous campaigns. Capello will make his decision purely on footballing matters when deciding his squad, and with that in mind Bridge will surely be on the plane to South Africa in June.
