MotoGP: Is the Season Over Before it Begins?

Betfred

With Valentino Rossi dominant in pre-season testing and the new season just around the corner is it not too early to start counting your MotoGP chickens. Rossi has won several worlds championships already when he has not been as strong in testing, so it doesn’t look good for his competitors.

Although the gap in pre-season testing has been small, getting ahead of your rivals at this early stage can only add to the apprehension of everyone else. Rossi’s nearest rival last year Jorge Lorenzo has already suffered a set back by injuring his hand in testing. Other riders like Casey Stoner however have been competitive and only fractions of a second behind ‘the doctor’ on the Fiat Yamaha.

Many would say that it would take something to happen to Rossi for someone to take his crown, and in motorcycle racing that is always highly possible. But with the talent that is Valentino Rossi not as likely as most in the field. After all this is why he has won most of his titles, purely by being the most consistent man in the field. So this is what is needed from his competitors, that and a strong machine. Ducati have shown they can keep up with Yamaha with a good rider line up maybe there will be a chance for the 2010 champion to be someone who isn’t Valentino Rossi.

Currently if you were to put your money on someone who wasn’t Valentino then the next favourite rider is Casey Stoner on the Ducati at 13/8 at Betfred. Rossi’s injured team mate Jorge Lorenzo is 3rd favourite at 9/2 with Daniel Pedrosa 4th at 11/2. There is a slight gap to the next bunch headed by Rookie Ben Spies at 20/1 ahead of Andrea Dovizioso who is 50/1 to win the title. Although Rossi is 3/2 to win the title so it will be tough for anyone to top that.
