Place your bets for Oscar’s weekend with Betfred

The whole of the film industry will be on tenterhooks this weekend as the annual Academy Awards presentation, fondly known as the Oscars, take place this Sunday, 7th March.
Taking home a statuette is the most coveted prize in showbiz and although there have been a number of other awards ceremonies over the past few months; this is the one that really matters. Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin are co-hosting the event which should hold a few surprises, not least because the Best Picture category has a whopping 10 entries.
Here’s a rundown of the most popular categories and the contenders who have some great odds over at Betfred!
Best Picture
This year sees a record number of nominations for the Best Picture award; A Serious Man, An Education, Avatar, District 9, Inglorious Basterds, Precious, The Blind Side, The Hurt Locker, Up and Up In The Air. Avatar is the front runner to win the Best Picture followed closely by The Hurt Locker. Betfred currently has great odds on Avatar at 5/4 with The Hurt Locker at 4/5.
Best Actor
This could be a hard one to call with several solid performances nominated from Colin Firth, Jeremy Renner and Morgan Freeman, but the favourite at the moment is Jeff Bridges for his exemplary work as Bad Blake in “Crazy Heart.”George Clooney also put in an incredible performance as the lead in “Up In the Air” and is also a strong contender. Jeff Bridges is favourite with pretty much all the bookies with 1/6 at Betfred but if you fancy a flutter on Mr. Clooney he’s at odds of 9/1 with Betfred.
Best Actress
There are some strong contenders in this category as well with newcomers Carey Mulligan and Gabourey Sidibe along with more well known actresses Helen Mirren in “The Last Station”, Meryl Streep and an outstanding performance from Sandra Bullock in “The Blind Side”. It’s looking like a battle between Streep and Bullock at the moment, with Bullock ever so slightly the favourite at Betfred with odds of 4/6 while Streep is at 6/4.
Best Supporting Actor
Strong performances from Woody Harrelson, Christopher Plummer, Stanley Tucci and Matt Damon but the favourite for his superb performance as S.S. Col. Hans Landa in “Inglorious Basterds” is Christoph Waltz. Betfred is offering 33/1 for Waltz but have leading odds of 20/1 on Woody Harrelson.
Best Supporting Actress
The clear favourite here is Mo’Nique being honoured for her work in “Precious” (currently odd of 1/16 with Betfred). However, there were also a number of strong performances in this category, notably the work of Anna Kendrick in “Up In the Air.” who is at 16/1 at Betfred.
