Will Kate and Prince William Marry?

Betfair

Kate Middleton, the girlfriend of Prince William, triumphed yesterday when she won the first stage of a privacy battle with a paparazzi agency. Over her Christmas holiday, which she spent with her family at Restormel Manor in Cornwall, the picture agency Rex Features photographed her whilst playing tennis. Although media organisations in the UK acquiesced to a request from Buckingham Palace to refrain from publishing the images, they were printed in German press. The solicitors of the Queen, Harbottle and Lewis, pursued action on Miss Middleton’s behalf, and yesterday she was awarded £5,000 in damages for the breach of privacy as well as legal costs. A spokesperson has claimed that she will donate the money to charity.

Since leaving the University of St Andrews, where she met Prince William, Miss Middleton has been hounded by the press. She has complained to her lawyer about harassment from the media twice, once in 2005 and again in 2007 when speculation arose that she and Prince William were about to announce their engagement, causing excited photographers to camp outside her London home. She has been keeping a low profile recently, and it has been said that the Queen is becoming increasingly concerned about the level of intrusion the press force on members of the Royal family.

The public and press have been partly expecting and partly hoping for a Royal engagement for quite some time now. Prince William has been recorded to have said that he does not intend to marry until he is at least 28; now that birthday is around the corner, perhaps a proposal will follow.

His brother Prince Harry has also been the focus of speculation concerning his relationship with 24 year old Chelsy Davy, although it has been suggested that the younger prince’s military career will inhibit the chances of a wedding any time soon. BetFair are offering odds of 81/100 that neither of the two princes announces their engagement in 2010; the odds on Prince William are at 87/100, and on Prince Harry 64/5.
