The former Charlton and West Ham manager is top of the next Hull manager odds from William Hill, with Steve Coppell the second favourite at 4/1.

Brown was sacked this morning, with the club 19th in the table, three points from safety with the worst goal difference in the league. In a statement, club chairman Adam Pearson said: "Retention of Premier League status is paramount and the board believes that a change in managerial direction is the correct option at this time.”

Gareth Southgate is available at 5/1 with Paul Jewell at 7/1. Brian Horton, current assistant and the man who will take caretaker charge of the club, is at 8/1.

“Brown's departure is no great surprise given the recent combination of poor results and poor discipline.” said Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe.

Hills are also offering 4/7 that Brown will be the last manager to lose his job this season.
