Mertesacker Going Nowhere Says Allofs
Werder Bremen's general manager Klauss Allofs has felt it necessary to declare that star defender Per Mertesacker will not be leaving the club this summer after interest from clubs such as Arsene Wenger's Arsenal.
Merterscaker has been with Werder Bremen for a long time now and has often been called one of their best players.
His impressive showings in the World Cup this summer, in which the German side finished in third place, have attracted much attention though and it had been reported that he would be looking for a move to a bigger club.
Allofs has denied that this is the case though, saying that Bremen are not a selling club and that they are, by no means, looking to sell their best defender.
"I have already said on a couple of occasions that Per will be staying on at our club and will go on playing for Werder Bremen," Allofs told BILD.
"Nothing has changed with regard to this and neither Per nor his agent have come to us saying that they have received an offer."
Although general manager Allofs has insisted that Mertesacker is staying in Bremen, he has admitted that they may face a battle to keep playmaker Mesut Ozil at the club.
The youngster had an incredible World Cup and has attracted the interest of many clubs, most notably Manchester United and former German international Allofs concedes that they may not be in a position to refuse should a large offer come in for the 21 year old former Shalke star.
"There are many clubs interested in Mesut, but none of these clubs have made an offer as yet," he said.
"Should there be an offer on the table, we would consider it. Everything is still possible at the moment.
"I would like to see the transfer window close now, with the team we have, because we are looking forward to competing in the UEFA Champions League."
Bremen are 62/5 with betfair to win the Bundesliga, with bwin offering 12/1 odds and Ladbrokes 7/1 currently.
