Button Calls For Calm

McLaren driver Jenson Button has told fans not to worry about the team's recent downturn in fortune, saying that they are still in the race for glory both in the drivers and the constructors championship.

Both World Champion Button, and his McLaren team mate Lewis Hamilton put in a run of good form earlier in the season, and for an amount of time, occupied both the first and second places in the drivers championship.

However, in the last Grand Prix in Hungary, a race overshadowed by Michael Schumacher's dangerous driving, Button trailed winner Mark Webber by a whole lap to finish in a disappointing eighth place whilst Hamilton had to retire, allowing Webber to take the leaders spot in the race for the World Championship.

As Webber's Red Bull team mate, Sebastian Vettel, finished in third place McLaren also fell behind the team in the Constructors championship.

Button has assured fans that they needn't worry though, insisting tat there is still plenty of time to get back to the top of the pile.

"Clearly we have some work to do to close the gap to the front," Button told his personal website. "I know how hard everyone is working back at the MTC (McLaren Technology Centre) to make that happen, and I'm confident that we'll be back in the hunt sooner rather than later.
"That's why I joined this team. Lewis and I are still very much in the hunt, even if the last few races haven't seemed to favour our car as much as they did earlier this year.

"But I know the strength of this team, and our determination and ambition to hit back. We know what we've got to do, and I'm confident that we'll be more competitive in both Spa and Monza, with more to come once we head off for the flyaways.”

Button is now 25/1 with Sportingbet to win the World Championship again, with skybet offering 16/1 and Ladbrokes 20/1.
