“We Will Bounce Back” says Jenson Button
Jenson Button does not seem to be even the slightest downcast following his extremely disappointing performance at the Hungarian Grand Prix last weekend, but that is not unusual. Jenson Button never seems to be depressed for very long whatever the circumstances as he clearly demonstrated when he was driving for the massively underperforming Honda team prior to it being taken over by Ros Brawn.
In Budapest Jenson started at 11th on the grid but made up a few places to end in 8th position in the race. Sadly for the team, but useful Jenson in terms of his championship position, team mate Lewis Hamilton failed to finish at all as he was let down by a gearbox failure.
On the surface it seems that McLaren do not have a snowballs chance in hell of catching and overtaking the Red Bulls which are around a second faster thanks to their superior aerodynamics which give them massive downforce which means they can maintain momentum through the fast corners. However Jenson believes that the engineers at the team’s factory in Woking will come up with equally performing components. Jenson said that he remained in the hunt for the championship.
Despite Hungary, Jenson is only fourteen points behind the championship leader Mark Weber and ten points behind Hamilton. He is also four points behind the other Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel.
The second half of the season begins on the 29th August at Spa, Belgium. Hopefully this will give McLaren time to catch up with the Red Bull aero package. If it is able to do so then we might see another exciting fight for the championship which could go all the way to the final race at the Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. Last year that race was won by Sebastian Vettel.
