Button claims his Red Bull rival Sebastian Vettel is too accident prone to be any real threat on the title race.

This comes as Vettel ploughed into the former world champion during last weekend's Belgium Grand Prix, sending him hurtling out of the race.

This is not the first time that Vettel has had an accidental collision, earlier in the year he went flying into his team-mate Mark Webber during the Turkish Grand Prix.

The 23-year-old German as precedent after colliding with his Australian counter-part but many critics think that Button's comments are simply 'sour grapes' and that they display a lack of sportsmanship in the McLaren driver's character.

"He's made too many mistakes this year to fight for the world championship but he is extremely quick, we can't take that away from him," Button said.

No one can deny Vettel's potential but many think that the young driver, nicknamed “Baby Schumi”, has a lot of development ahead of him if he is to be welcomed into the hall of racing legends.

Vettel's record this season stands as testament to this, with seven poll positions landed in to 13 races but only two victories to his name.

That record was one of the criticisms Button had of the Red Bull driver, as he said: "To get seven poles is extraordinary in the amount of races we've had (13), but to throw that many away is also very surprising.”

Victor Chandler, Paddy Power and BlueSQ offer 7/2 odds that Sebastian Vettel will win the Formula One drivers' championship this season.
