England Made Favourites To Host 2018 World Cup
England are now back to favourites to win the right to host the 2018 World Cup thanks to what bookies are calling "The Beckham Factor".
With FIFA set to announce the hosts of the 2018 and 2022 World Cups on Thursday, England are now favourites with Ladbrokes, whilst other bookmakers are struggling to split England and Russia.
England had at one point been third favourites to win the rights to host the tournament, largely following persistent allegations made against FIFA officials by the Sunday Telegraph and BBC Panorama, along with comments made by Lord Triesman reported in the Daily Mail.
With David Cameron also part of the bid party that has flown to Zurich, parallels have also been drawn with London's successful bid for the 2012 Olympics when then Prime Minister Tony Blair travelled with the bid party to Singapore, with London only second favourites to win the bid.
Coral's David Stevens said: "Two days ago England were third favourites to win this race, but since then our bid has been transformed by the presence of the two Davids, Cameron and Beckham, and the regal touch of Prince William, and all the confidence is now behind the England team in Zurich."
