Novak Djokovic reaches unparalleled levels of confidence
There is nothing like a run of victories to boost a sportsman's confidence, and that is exactly what Novak Djokovic has been experiencing as of late.
The serbian tennis star has been enjoying the best run of form in his entire career; this has bolstered his confidence no end, leading him to the conclusion that he will be able to dethrone world number one, Rafael Nadal, as the top clay court player. Confident or not, Djokovic will have a battle on his hands if he wants to overcome the spaniard; Nadal has no less than five French Open titles to his name. Djokovic believes that his will be able to achieve the improbable over the course of this Summer, and defeat one of the best clay court players that the sport has ever produced – Djokovic's unbeaten run of 24 matches gives more than a little weight to his way of thinking...
"I am playing with a lot more confidence against him these days.” said Djokovic when asked about competing against Nadal on the clay court circuit.
"I now believe I can beat anyone on any surface, although beating Nadal on clay remains a big ask and the biggest challenge of all," he added.
Djokovic's run of form has seen him rise to the place in the world rankings; he has also picked up various titles along the way, such as the Australian Open and Dubai Open, as well as wins at Indian Wells an Miami. Despite this, Nadal has not sank into the background, he has also been adding to his list of titles with wins in Monte Carlo and Barcelona, making his as strong an opponent as ever.
"Down the years, as Nadal kept ripping apart everything in front of him on red clay, we always thought there was no room left for improvement in his game and he kept surprising us," said the Serb.
"He is still the player to beat [on clay] and the favourite in each of the upcoming events, including the French Open, because he is so dominant on this surface."
Stan James, Paddy Power and bet365 offer 9/2 odds that Novak Djokovic will go on to win the French Open.
