Latest Betting News on Darley July Cup
The latest news from the gallops is that the Godolphin owned Delegator is looking really good and in perfect form for this weekend’s Darley July Cup at the Newmarket Festival.
As this thoroughbred has missed the Golden Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot due to the ground, his present condition was something of an unknown quality. However, his trainer Bin Suroor has set his store on getting Delegator to peak form for the July Cup ever since he was withdrawn from Royal Ascot, and according to several sources it appears that he has got it right.
At the Limekilns Short Gallop, and ridden by Ted Durcan, he worked six furlongs and ended a whole six lengths clear of the lead horse, much to the delight of Simon Crisford, the stable’s race manager who has also confirmed that the horse will be ridden by Frankie Dettori in the Cup.
Currently the best odds on Delegator of 5 to 1 are available from a number of bookmakers including Paddy Power (which currently has a £100 free bets promotion).
The second favourite is Star Witness as 6 to 1 followed by Bated Breath at 9 to 1, both bets are available from Ladbrokes, though William Hill is offering 11 to 1 on Bated Breath and has Elzaam as the third favourite at 9 to 1.
Star Witness is an Australian horse and, ridden by Pat Cosgrave, oi finished third in the Golden Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot; Bated Breath, ridden by Richard Hughes, finished fifth.
The Darley July Cup will be run this Saturday. It is a Group 1 race for thoroughbreds three years and older. It is run over 6 furlongs and is one of the most important sprint races of the season and was first run in 1876. Last year’s winner was Starspangledbanner ridden by Johnny Murtagh.
