The latest well-wisher to Hamilton's 2012 F1 attempts comes from one of his main rivals at Red Bull – Mark Webber – who has been shedding light on what he believes  are the obstacles standing in the way of the young British driver and regaining his dominating grip on the sport.

Webber recently spoke to sporting press regarding Hamilton's troubled 2011 season, saying: "He was involved in more incidents than he would have liked but he's clearly gifted behind the wheel."

"It's normal for a sportsman or woman to go through some headwinds in their career - particularly someone like him who had so much success so early, and he's black, and he's got interest, and he's got a girlfriend of profile,” added the Australian driver.

One of the main reasons that was citied for Hamilton's sporadic poor performances was his troubled relationship with pop star girlfriend Nicole Scherzinger; despite the couple having apparently broken up back in October, there are rumours that their relationship could be rekindled as they have recently been photographed in each other's company.

"This is of interest to a lot of people and it needs managing,"  commented Webber.

In preparations for the challenges of the upcoming F1 season, Hamilton has been making amendments to his coaching and management teams; this included the addition of  Didier Coton, who served as adviser to double world champion Mika Hakkinen.

"Let's hope he's strong but not too strong. As a competitor you hope he can realise his potential but clearly we still want to beat him," said Webber.

Meanwhile, BetFred, Totesport and Paddy Power currently offer 9/2 odds that Ferrari's Fernando Alonso will go on to win the 2012 F1 drivers' championship.
